Adriano is returning in the Serie A, but Italy isn't waiting for him with open arms. Having left from Inter due to his agitated life outside of sports, Adriano signed with AS Roma. Before arriving on the Olimpico, the striker is first expected at the Police, suspected of being linked to drug dealers.
Adriano has to explain to the Rio police everything about two photos of his that have appeared in the Brazilian newspapers a while ago.
Trying to set matters straight, Adriano called his agent, Gilmar Rinaldi, to help. He said in an interview for Redacao SportTV, that the gun the player was holding isn't a real weapon, but another object shaped as a gun, whereas the gun held by his friend is a toy.
“Adriano was called and interviewed by commissioner Luiz Alberto Cunha de Andrafe”, declared the spokesman for the 38 precinct in Bras Pina (north zone of Rio).
The player, who will be leaving Brazil on the 6th of June to Sardinia for a week's vacation before going to AS Roma, is suspected by the police for having a financial links with Fabiano Atanasio de Silva's men, who is the the boss of drug dealers from the Vila Cruzeiro favella.
Da Silva is, among others, accused of shooting in a police helicopter, on the 17th of October last year, where three officers were burnt to death. Also, he is accused of killing a prison director in October 2008.
According to the O Dia newspaper of Monday, the police is investigating two photos in which Adriano appears. In one of these photos, the player signs the letters “CV” with his fingers, which is the sign for the Commando Vermelho criminal organization, and in another one he holds a gun. The photos were taken from the player when he was living in Como, near Milano, and was playing for Inter. Adriano's agent affirmed that the gun is actually “a replica used for paintball games.”
This is the second time in three months that Adriano is in hearing by the police. In April last year, he was supposed to explain why one of his motorcycles was registered on the name the mother of a drug dealer and childhood friend, Paulo Rogerio de Souza Paz. The case has yet to close.
