According to a recent poll, the German team’s average age is 25 years. With that said, it’s quite a miracle that such a young team as Germany made it so far into the World Cup. Not only did they get into the semifinals, but the path they had to go on was by far the most difficult.

With the group stages fairly easy, except for England in the last 16 who could have proved to be though competition and also Argentina in the quarter finals. But Germany sent both teams packing with four goals in each game. As a matter of fact, Germany scored four times in three different games, starting with a 4-0 against Australia.

Germany’s football has been like a freshly oiled machine, with every piece clicking in the right place. Although their defense looks shaky, midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sami Khedira are protecting the back four.

In 2008, Spain defeated Germany in the Euro 2008, and the 2010 World Cup is Germany’s chance at revenge, with coach Joachim Loew stating that they are now on par with the Spaniards. Although their performance thus far proves that, with key player Thomas Mueller suspended, things might be a bit tricky for Germany.

Although considered favorites from the beginning, Spain haven’t been that convincing in their football. Despite winning every match since their initial defeat against Switzerland, with star striker David Villa shining as one of the top three players of the World Cup, Spain have been having trouble.

They’ve had difficulty in scoring, and their midfield has been bullied by opposing defense. Fernando Torres is out of shape and their defense has looked weary on occasions. But Spain have had to face teams who would put up a great defense.

In that sense, Spain won’t have to worry about Germany building a brick wall infront of their goal post, but they will have to focus on the imminent threat the Germans pose: Khedira-Schweinsteiger who could give Spain’s defense midfielder Sergio Busquets a hard time.

But there’s still a feeling that Spain deserve to get into the finals, defeating Italy on penalties in the Euro 2008’s quarter finals. Thanks to that win, which gave Spain a sense of self belief was what propelled them to win the tournament.

Also, an omen as some have suggested, might be the fact that in 2008, Rafael Nadal won his first ever Wimbledon and Spain won the Euro 2008. In 2010, Nadal won the Wimbledon again, and some are expecting great things from Spain in the World Cup.
