On the 12th of September, Arsenal has played an away game against Manchester City.
Besides the fact that Arsenal lost 4:2, there are other facts to talk about, like Adebayor’s unsporting behavior regarding Arsenal’s player, Robin Van Persie, and his gesture regarding the Arsenal fans.
After Adebayor has scored Manchester City’s third goal, he went to celebrate the goal in front of the Arsenal supporters. It seemed more dangerous than unfair, as someone could have thrown something at him. For this gesture Adebayor hasn’t received a punishment, yet.
This happened after he has done what everybody is talking about, respectively hitting Van Persie with the foot in the head.
The gesture was unsporting and unfair because Van Persie fell and Adebayor has hit him with the foot in the head. This hit has left quite a stamp on the head of the Dutch player.
The gesture was unfriendly because of the relationship of these two players, as they were team mates back when Adebayor played for Arsenal.
Adebayor explained his gesture as being an accident, as he couldn’t do anything about it. He tried to pull his foot and avoid Van Persie’s head, but everything happened too fast and Van Persie got stamped.
For this gesture, Adebayor was banned from 3 matches. So far, he didn’t play with Manchester United and Fulham. After the match against West Ham United he will be back on the pitch…maybe.
Though, Adebayor admitted that he is regretting what happened. What’s more, Robin Van Persie isn’t expecting an excuse from “Mr. Adebayor”.
Fabregas also commented on Adebayor’s behavior. The 22 year old Spanish striker said that Arsenal’s players aren’t thinking anymore of Adebayor, as they are concentrating on their current work and squad. Though, Fabregas was shocked by the behavior of the African player as he said that no other player who has left Arsenal has done something like this.
The Gunners respected Adebayor when he was still playing for them. Maybe they respected the Togo national player because they were afraid of him.
