Blues vs Reds

Published: October 3, 2009

Chelsea and Liverpool are playing a Premier League derby this Sunday, October the 4th.

It’s rather a contest between Carlo Ancelotti and Rafa Benitez than a contest between the 2 not-so-spectacular-at-the-moment teams.

Both games the last two teams played were in the Champions League. Unlike Chelsea, who managed to beat Apoel Nicosia with 1-0 in a poor game, the Reds have lost with 2-0 against AC Fiorentina.

Last year, Fiorentina and Nicosia had only been a small opponent, but this year either the English teams have problems or they have serious competition.

Chelsea had a great start in the Premier League. Liverpool’s start was good, but though, they managed to score more than 3 goals in many matches (except the games they’ve lost). But until now, both teams have played with smaller teams. Though, these small teams have created serious problems and it seems that the other small teams in the Champions League are serious competition. Let’s not forget that Inter Milano made 1-1 with Rubin Kazan, Milan has lost home against FC Zurich and Unirea Urziceni has made 1-1 with VFB Stuttgart. So, if small teams are a big problem, what about big teams?

Let’s continue with the duel between Benitez and Ancelotti.
So far, they have met in the final of the biggest club competition. One time Benitez’s team has won in an historical match, and one time Ancelotti’s Rossoneri’s have won in a spectacular game.
Seemingly, both managers are meeting only in high level competitions. If this was so, this year, the Premier League may be the best European league.

Last year, Liverpool has won both Premier League matches against Chelsea. Still, Chelsea has defeated them in the Champions League quarter finals (7-5 on aggregate).

Well, you can’t win them all.

In the Premier League table, Chelsea is on the 2nd place with 18 points, followed by Liverpool on the 3rd place with 15 points.

Still, this match won’t make the difference in the Premier League grid. This could only happen if ManU are losing their home game against Sunderland.

Videosoccer.net prediction for Chelsea – Liverpool: 2-1.
