After winning the European Cup decades ago, dominating the Premier League seemed like a dream to Inter. Actually, the four-times running Italian champions have only just qualified for the quarter finals in almost four years.

After defeating Chelsea 2-1 at the San Siro, they won with 1-0 at Stamford Bridge, gaining them access to the final eight in style. It also ranked them second to be likely to win the Champions League after Barcelona.

Their professional and remarkable performance in Europe has foreshadowed their insuccess back in Italy, where they have won only two of their last 9 league fixtures. Even so, they will start as favorites in the tie against CSKA Moscow.

Even though the game against Sevilla was far from competitive (2-1), CSKA Moscow’s game was a beautiful example of the Army Men’s ability far away from home in Europe, just as much as their defeat of the Turkish team and the tie with Manchester United at 3-3.

Given the fact that this is the first time CSKA has reached the quarter finals, and only the second Russian team to ever do so since Spartak Moscow, coach Leonid Skutsky seems happy with his status as the underdog of the game, knowing that this won’t pressure his men.

They’re also doing well back in Mother Russia, currently fourth after tree rounds into the Russian Premier League.

The triple scoring at Old Trafford should also inspire them to score a much needed goal at the San Siero, just so that they have an advantage in the return leg.
